Shine Mageri Series Book 5 edition by Dannika Dark Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
After reading all the books in Dannika’s Mageri Series and the Seven Series all I can say is I loved both series and she is now one of my top Authors. . I’m looking forward to reading her latest series called Crossbreed. Both series were exciting, loving, humorous, and suspenseful and I even cried. Dannika’s humor is like no other and I found myself laughing out loud. She is such a clever word smithy. I apparently read the 2 series out of the recommend order. I read the Seven Series first and the Mageri Series second but it did not make any difference in the story telling. I was glad I read them in the order I did as I was left with a Big surprise and a very happy heart when I read the last book “The Gift” in the Mageri Series on the last pages. I was left with such a happy and satisfied feeling as the two series were connected in a special way that worked for me. I wish the series could have gone on forever as I loved the characters in both series. It was like having to say good-bye to friends you love. I highly recommend Dannika’s work and especially these two series.
This is the latest and last of the Mageri series by Dannika Dark. I finished it a few days ago but wanted to wait and let everything sink in before writing this, because this book is guaranteed to give you a major book hangover, as it did me. I would like to say that I can’t begin to tell you how much I loved this book and series, but then there wouldn’t be a review, so I will try to explain how really fantastic this book experience has been for me.
The series started with Zoe, just an ordinary woman with maybe a bit more static electricity in her touch then normal, but pretty normal all things considered. She is attacked and left for dead. When she wakes up and escapes the body bag in the ambulance, she is rescued by a man named Adam and eventually completely changes her looks-as in she is a completely different person- except for her mind-all this done somehow magically while she heals. At this point in the series, I was totally hooked.
So much happens in this series. As Silver(Zoe’s new name after her transformation) starts learning what she actually is now and what powers she has, Dannika deftly orchestrates the story so that so many of the little nuances that you either might or might not necessarily notice, become important later on in the series. This helps move the story along until its ending. And what a perfect ending Dannika has crafted. I loved that so many things get explained and most(but not all) of the loose ends get tied up with a beautiful bow like a present to her readers. Every time something else would get explained or finished in this book, I would literally say out loud..”Ah that’s why” or words to that effect. I actually read it a lot slower then usual, as I wanted to make it last.
My absolute favorite thing about this series? The character of Logan Cross. The best alpha male character that I have ever read, bar none. The romance between Silver and Logan is just the best and really different from most romances-especially the way they first meet.
I loved that although this is the last book in the series, the author plans to include at least one of the characters in a future book. This character, Christian, is one that needs a bit more explaining to find out what happens to him, so that works for me! I would be happy to see a lot more then just one of the characters used in future books(Simon) and I am sure the author’s readers would agree with me. I became completely involved with these characters and I will miss reading about them. Ms. Dark is very accomplished at fully drawing her characters. I feel like I could pretty much describe most of them, right down to the smallest attribute.
I had mixed feelings about reading this book. I wanted to read it and couldn’t wait for it to be released, but at the same time I really didn’t want the series to be over. I attribute this to the excellent story telling by the author. This series has it all, romance, mystery, action, humor, and yes even some tragedy. You laugh, you cry and you totally immerse yourself in this extraordinary world the author has built. Urban Fantasy doesn’t get much better then this and I would recommend this to all people that love UF or paranormal romance.
On a side note, if you read the series and want to vent or just discuss, there are two groups on Facebook just for that. A visit to the Dannika Dark Facebook page will get you pointed in the right direction.(PureTextuality.com)
I'm so sad that this is the final full length book in the Mageri series. I've loved every book and Shine was no different. It picks up from where Gravity left off so if you haven't read the previous books in the series, you really need to. Silver continues to grow as a mage in this book, becoming more confident with who she is in the breed world. Justus and Page's relationship takes an unexpected turn in a delightful way, Simon continues to be a lovable rogue (he is just the best), Adam moves on to another chapter in his life finally helping him be at peace with who he is and where his life has taken him and Nero continues to be a nuisance and make a play for control of the breed world. Sunny gets a bit of closure and makes a decision on her future and Novis remains a strong supporting character. Logan, as always, is edible. His character is solid and consistent and I love every page he's on. His relationship with Silver is put to the test when he is made accountable by the higher authority for his role in Tarek's demise in the most devastating of ways.
Dannika Dark's style remains consistent in this book. The reader is able to enter another world and become invested in the life and happiness of her characters. She has proven why she is firmly in my Favourites folder. My only slight gripe with this book was that a bit of content from previous books was rehashed at regular intervals in this one. That being said, I binged on this entire series in a week without a break so probably noticed it more than if I'd taken a break between books as what happens normally between book releases. I would have liked a bit more from Silver's point of view as there seemed to be quite a chunk being told from other characters. While I do enjoy their perspective in the story, I probably would have preferred a bit more Silver to flesh out her story. I like the story lines of the other characters, but Silver is by far my favourite so it's just a bit of personal preference because more Silver can only be a good thing )
The end of the book is exactly what I had been waiting for and it didn't disappoint. We get to see Silver come into her own with her powers and being a part of the breed world. While her story wasn't wrapped up perfectly with a bow, I liked that the author chose to do this as it continued to make Silver more relatable and realistic. There is a still a happy ending for our beloved characters, but life is often unpredictable in the Mageri world. I wish there were more books in this series as I've thoroughly enjoyed being immersed in the wonderful world this author always creates. I'll just have to go back and reread the Crossbreed series...again lol.
I love this last book the summation of what is going on in the lives of the characters. Truth and LOVE prove to be the best for everyone in the book. Silver has found the meaning of her difficult life and the struggles that made her so strong. Excellent book.GREAT series.
